What types of cameras were used in the early 1900's?
I'm doing a research classification paper, and thats my topic, knowing nothing about photography, I am commming to the experts for assistance
can you please list atleast three types of cameras that were used in the early 1900's like during the deptression age, and the jazz age, I can do the research, i just need three names please help!
Almost all cameras used by serious photographers at the turn of the 20th century were view cameras. Many manufacturers made them, and they were mostly hand-made wooden devices. Kodak was one manufacturer of these types of cameras, before they got heavily into consumer cameras (like the Brownie). The negative formats were generally large, say 5x7" or 8x10". Prints were made by contact printing rather than enlargement. Negatives were generally glass plates but film was just starting to be used.
Moving on to the "Jazz Age" smaller cameras came into use, but were still view cameras. I own a German Ica "Ideal 225" in 9x12cm format, made in the early 1920s. It originally was designed to use glass plates but later could be used with cut sheet film. Also the Graflex "Speed Graphic" was made from 1912 to 1927 and probably would have been used extensively during this period.
During the depression (1930s) the Speed Graphics continued to be used quite a bit, and pictures by photographers like Dorthea Lange were often done with such cameras. Cameras using 35mm motion picture film, such as the Leica, started to come into use during this period.
